Students at William de Ferrers School in South Woodham Ferrers are celebrating this year’s A Level results day, with many now preparing to begin university courses, apprenticeships and careers across a variety of sectors.

Students have secured places at universities such as Exeter, Bristol, Nottingham, Lincoln and Manchester, with others entering apprenticeships in landscape gardening, electrical services, dental nursing and degree apprenticeships within the police force and engineering. The results come at the end of a period of continued improvement, during which the school welcomed James Donaldson as Executive Headteacher through support from the school’s Trust, The Chelmsford Learning Partnership. Since his appointment in 2024, he has worked alongside staff to strengthen teaching, learning and outcomes across the school.

Miss A Farrar, Head of Sixth Form, said: “We are immensely proud of every single one of our Year 13 students today. Their hard work, combined with the dedication of our teaching staff, has paid off in these phenomenal results. To see our A* – B percentage jump by 7% compared to last year is a testament to the culture of ambition we have cultivated together.”
Among this year’s success stories are:
- Jennifer achieved one A*, two As and two Bs
- Finn secured three A*s and one A and has accepted an offer at Exeter University to study Maths with Economics plus a year in industry
- Ruby earned four As and one C and is preparing to begin Maths and Economics at Nottingham University
- Evie achieved three Distinction*s in her Level 3 BTEC courses and will be starting her Sports Business Management course at Lincoln in September
- Toby secured one A*, one A and a D to progress on to studying musical theatre at BIMM in Manchester
- Joe exceeded four grades higher than predicted, securing two As and a Distinction* to study Business and Management at Bristol
James Donaldson, Executive Headteacher, said: “We are delighted by our students’ outstanding grades, which are truly a reflection of their hard work and determination. This year’s students have been a joy to teach, and their attitude to learning inside and outside of the classroom has been inspirational. We are delighted to see them progressing to such a diverse range of destinations, and our school community looks forward to watching them thrive in their chosen pathways.”
Ruby, who earned four As and one C and is preparing to begin Maths and Economics at Nottingham University, said: “Getting these grades is an incredible feeling. The teachers supported me every step of the way, especially when things got challenging. I can’t wait to start my degree in Maths at Nottingham University this autumn.”
