Volunteering has something to offer everyone. By giving your time, you can make a positive difference while gaining valuable personal benefits. These include:

  • Developing new skills, building confidence, and enhancing your experience for work or education
  • Improving wellbeing and reducing feelings of loneliness or isolation at any stage of life
  • Gaining a greater sense of purpose, fulfilment, and accomplishment
  • Meeting new people, expanding your network, and forming meaningful connections

Heart and Sole walks

Heart and Sole is a free health walk scheme, run by volunteers with support from our Community Sport and Wellbeing Team. They run regular led walks all across Chelmsford, linked to The Ramblers “Wellbeing Walks” programme.

Volunteering at the Museum

If you love interacting with the public and have a love for local history, becoming a volunteer at the Museum of Chelmsford could be for you!

Volunteering with the museum is a wonderful way to give back to your community, to learn a new skill, make new friends, or even using the opportunity to enhance your work experience for your career.

Parks Volunteering

Join us as a volunteer in Chelmsford and you will have the chance to get involved with your local community, meet new people, make new friends, develop your skills and help improve your local environment.

The work of volunteers helps make our parks and Local Nature Reserves even better, both for the humans that visit them and for the nature that lives within them! All our volunteer sessions are led by skilled staff.

Volunteers can support our work and the environment in many different ways: from helping us to manage habitats, surveying wildlife, volunteering in our formal gardens, planting trees, assisting on a litter pick day, to even helping with the construction of new park features such as footpath bridges.

Volunteering at parkrun

Parkrun events take place every week and everyone is welcome to volunteer, we’d love you to join in!

There are plenty of opportunities to try new roles, apply your skills or learn new ones, be with friends and family, meet people and be a part of the parkrun community.

You don’t need any experience of parkrun, junior parkrun or of volunteering. There are a range of roles to choose from, and many of them can be combined with walking or running too.

You can volunteer alone or team up with someone else, and there are always people on hand if you have any questions.

Every time you volunteer gets you one step closer to an official parkrun milestone, which rewards those who have volunteered 10 (for those under 18), 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 or 1000 times.
