Over the three day weekend of 19th to 22nd March, 244 young and not so young in 40 teams took to the water in the swimming pool at SWF, completing a total of 3891 lengths at this year’s Rotary Swimarathon.
The event was kindly opened by our Town Mayor, Councillor Alan Shearing and six lanes started the fun, swimming in relay for forty minutes followed by five minutes of “mayhem” all swimming together and giving our Rotarians; Inner Wheel members and other helpers no small task to accurately count the lengths swam.
Although the main aim of this event is to have fun and be healthy, it raises money for charities through our Charity Account and this year the Mid and South Essex Hospitals Dandelion Appeal Charity, which enhances end-of-life care across local hospitals, will be the principal recipient. And 50% of the monies raised by each team can be paid to a charity of that team’s choice.
Our sincere thanks go to all participants- schools-youth organisations- family groups and our helpers in running this event which is a challenge for our small Rotary Club. Special thanks to our sponsors who enable us to meet the expenses of running the event (cost of pool hire etc), maximising the monies going to worthy charitable causes.
As always, if you are interested in finding out more about Rotary and whether you can possibly help the men and women in our Club better to serve our community, please look at our website www.swfrotaryclub.co.uk and Email info@swfrotaryclub.co.uk
