RotaKids from Elmwood and Trinity St Mary’s C of E primary schools met up by the Orchard in South Woodham Ferrers, to plant Crocus corms.
Accompanied by their teachers and helpers and assisted by Rotarians from our Club, they got down to the task of planting over 700 corms hopefully to produce a display which reminds us all of the fight to eradicate Polio throughout the world, which the Rotary champions.
The children know that the Purple colour, like the colour of the plants, is painted on a child’s finger to show that the child has received an inoculation, in countries fighting the disease throughout the world.
In addition, thanks to his wide knowledge, they received interesting information about the plants and the many bugs and insects they seemed able to find, given by a Park Ranger. Ending up doing a “penguin” walk to press down the twenty-seven lines of planting, they were all such a credit.
