2 National Champions in 1 day!

This month, the Billericay and Wickford Amateur Boxing Club proudly celebrated two additional National Champions, bringing their remarkable total to 21 National Champions since Les Cooke reformed the Club in 2009!

Last week, George Liddard, a former Billericay and Wickford Schoolboy 3 Nations Champion and the youngest boxer ever to represent the Club, was crowned the youngest British and Commonwealth Professional Middleweight Champion.

Congratulations are also in order for Abbie, Fionn, Caleb, and most recently, Kieran. Abbie has become their 20th National Champion, while Fionn is the 21st. Notably, Abbie is the daughter of Richard Underhill and Jo Courtney, who run Repair it Smart in Rettendon.

Richard Underhill expressed his pride: “Wow, my daughter! I’m so proud, and she’s an inspiration for all girls out there who want to take up the sport. Dreams do come true, and my daughter is testament to that—this is not just a boy’s sport!”

The Club extends heartfelt thanks to all the grassroots amateur boxing coaches who volunteer their time to help the kids reach their potential. They also appreciate the unwavering support from parents, friends, and volunteers at their gym.

Special recognition goes to Kieran and Caleb, who faced some very close decisions—they are among the hardest training boxers in the gym, and their time will come again. Congratulations to everyone involved, and always remember the roots of your training and where you started.

The Billericay and Wickford Amateur Boxing Club is affiliated with England Boxing. All their coaches and volunteers are trained, qualified, and fully DBS checked. They train both adults and children.
