Families invited to discover 10 wildlife sculptures and hands-on building activities near Chelmsford

Families looking for summer holiday inspiration can enjoy a brand-new brick-themed adventure at RHS Garden Hyde Hall this summer, with the launch of Brick Explorers, an interactive wildlife trail featuring spectacular brick sculptures, creative play and storytelling experiences.

Running from 18 July to 31 August, the event, created in partnership with Iconic Bricks, will transform the Essex garden into an outdoor wildlife discovery trail where visitors can search for ten giant brick-built creatures inspired by nature’s own “superheroes”.

Set within the beautiful gardens near Chelmsford, the trail encourages children to learn about the fascinating skills and behaviours that help wildlife survive, from pollinators and insects to birds and other garden creatures.

Young explorers can collect wildlife “superpowers” in a special activity booklet as they make their way around the garden, discovering how plants, animals and fungi are connected within the natural world.

Alongside the trail, visitors can take part in hands-on brick building sessions throughout the summer, creating their own nature-inspired designs and imaginative green spaces. Special storytelling walks will also bring the gardens and their wildlife to life.

Elin Simonsson, Head of Public Engagement at the RHS, said:

“Brick Explorers is a fun way for families to connect with nature during the summer holidays. The sculptures spark curiosity and encourage children to explore the gardens, discover wildlife and learn about the amazing creatures that share our outdoor spaces.”

Brick Explorers is included with normal garden admission. Tickets start from £5.25 for children and £13.75 for adults as part of the Great British Summer Savings campaign*.
