There are just a few days to go before voters head to the polls on 7 May to choose their new Essex County Councillors. Essex County Council is responsible for a wide range of local services, including highways, social care, libraries, schools and education. A Chelmsford City Council by-election will take place on the same day for residents in the Broomfield and The Walthams ward.
Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm, and you’ll need to attend the polling station listed on your polling card. If you can’t find your poll card, you can check the location online on the ‘Where do I vote’ website. You don’t need to take your poll card with you to vote but you will need to bring a form of accepted photo ID.
Voting in the county council’s Springfield division has been delayed following the death of one of the candidates. This will now take place on Thursday 18 June 2026 and affected residents will receive a letter confirming the new arrangements.
