First Bike Show at SMGWA is a roaring success

The Stow Maries Motorbike Showa brand-new event on the calendar at Stow Maries Great War Aerodromewas a great success, with the historic World War One site resounding to the revving of over 400 hundred bikes as exhibitors and visitors arrived for a great day out.

Visitors enjoyed the sight of row upon row of around 200 classic and performance bikes on display at the heart of the historic site – the best-preserved World War One aerodrome in Europe. With a barbecue, bar by local brewery Datum Attitude and trade stalls, as well as access to the Museum exhibitions and hangars, it was a great day out for all.

A series of trophies were handed out in the afternoon to the best bikes in the show:

Best Classic – awarded to Richard Ringer for his Suzuki GT750

Best Cruiser – awarded to Les Dorney for his Triumph Rocket 3

Best Sports Bike – awarded to Scott Cracknell for his 2023 BMW S1000RR M Sport

Best Tourer – awarded to Trevor Law for his 2005 Honda Goldwing

Judge Ross’s choice – awarded to Imran Shaikh for his 1999 Harley-Davidson Sportster.

Ian Flint, Chief Executive Officer of Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, comments: “We have long been popular with biking groups arriving at weekends to enjoy our hearty cooked breakfasts, so it seemed like a great idea to give the biking community a show of their own to enjoy. We were delighted with the turnout, with a fantastic selection of vintage and modern bikes of all kinds on site, and everyone enjoying a good day out in the countryside.”

There will be more classic vehicle action at Wings and Wheels on Sunday 24 May, with 200 vintage, classic and unusual cars and motorbikes booked to attend, and fantastic aircraft overhead.

The events programme continues with a Family Nature Day (29 May), Summer Fly-In (June 14), Back to WW2 event on Armed Forces Day (27 June), Living History Weekend (4-5 July) and The Stow Maries Air Show (16 August). Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 10am to 4pm. For more information visit www.stowmaries.org.uk.
