Restless Republic:The Story of a Turbulent Decade Between Charles I and Charles II with Tutor Roger Cooke
Fee: £50
The C17th was a crucial period in our history but sandwiched between the Reformation and the Enlightenment it is often treated as a pause to recover from one epoch and prepare for another. The course aims to engage with great events and even greater lives. We will tour Europe asking questions like How many False Dimitris were there; which was worse the Deluge, or the Great Wrath? And, if that wasn’t enough, we will at one of the greatest European empires of the Century, the Swedish Empire, and ask how and why, and of course, was Queen Christina really a man? It will be exciting, shocking and fun; with events and warnings that echo down the ages to contemporary times.
