Farleigh Hospice is asking the mid Essex community to help raise £65,000 in one week, to give the gift of specialist nursing care to people living with life-limiting illnesses this Christmas.
The local charity is working with the Big Give, the UK’s biggest collaborative fundraising campaign, which provides match funding to double the value of donations given to charities.
During the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge campaign on 2nd to 9th December, any donation made to Farleigh through the campaign’s website will be worth twice as much at no extra cost to the donor. A £10 donation will be worth £20, or £22.50 if the donor is a UK tax payer who has agreed to Gift Aid. Similarly, a donation of £100 will be worth up to £225 for the hospice.
Farleigh provides compassionate hospice care to adults with life-limiting illnesses and their families across mid Essex, both in their homes and at the charity’s specialist inpatient unit. Farleigh also offers information and support to bereaved children and adults and makes no charge for any of its services.
Farleigh hopes to raise a minimum of £65,000 through the Big Give to help fund its Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS). They give expert care and support to patients who are being cared for at home, through face-to-face visits and phone and video calls.
The CNS help to manage their complex symptoms and relieve their pain, so they can enjoy a better quality of life with their loved ones and die with dignity, in peace and comfort.
Amelia Whybro-Teslia has been a CNS at Farleigh Hospice for 11 years and really enjoys the role.
She said, “Many people with life-limiting conditions prefer to be cared for at home, near to their family and friends, which is why Farleigh’s Clinical Nurse Specialists are so important.
“We have the expertise to give them specialist care in their home environment. We also liaise with and work alongside their GP and district nurses and signpost them to other support, so their individual needs are met.
“Farleigh’s clinical advice line is open seven days a week, so our patients and their families also have access to CNS support over the phone or by video call at a time that suits them.
“There is a lot of demand for this specialist care, so we are very grateful to anyone who kindly makes a donation through the Big Give campaign. Please give the gift of nursing care this Christmas and help Farleigh Hospice to make a big difference in your local community.”
Donations can be made to Farleigh Hospice through the Big Give website, from midday on Tuesday 2nd to midday Tuesday 9th December. There is a £32,500 match funding pot available. For more information and to donate, please go to www.farleighhospice.org/big-give .
