Basildon Fire Station was filled with conversation, laughter and Christmas carols as Essex County Fire and Rescue Service welcomed residents for a community Christmas lunch.

Dozens of residents joined firefighters at the station for the event, supported by families, volunteers and supporters who helped make the day possible.

Guests enjoyed a traditional Christmas meal, including turkey with all the trimmings, mince pies and Christmas pudding – all prepared by a team of firefighters at the station.

A festive raffle also took place during the afternoon.

The lunch was kindly supported by Tesco, Asda, Mother’s Kitchen in Pitsea, Basildon Council, and Rick and Clair Love, whose generosity helped ensure the event was a success. Billericay Football Club also supported the event by loaning tables and chairs.

A special moment came when pupils and staff from Ghyllgrove Primary School in Basildon visited the station to perform a selection of Christmas carols and songs.

Their performance was warmly received, with guests applauding the children’s singing.
