Borrow a Blood Pressure Monitor from Essex Library Service

Blood pressure monitoring

Take control of your health with our new scheme, where you can borrow a blood pressure monitor and check your blood pressure at home.

From Monday 8 September, all adult library members will be able to borrow a blood pressure monitor from any of our 74 local libraries or 2 mobile libraries, free of charge, for up to 2 weeks. You don’t need a GP referral to loan a monitor, just a library card!

You can also check your blood pressure using one of our 15 freestanding machines in the following libraries: Basildon, Billericay, Braintree, Brentwood, Canvey, Chelmsford, Clacton, Colchester (from November 2025), Harlow, Loughton, Maldon, Saffron Walden, South Woodham Ferrers, Wickford, and Witham.

When you borrow a blood pressure monitor, you’ll get a kit including:

  • Instructions on how to take readings and what to do with the results
  • A blood pressure diary to record your readings
  • Links to online resources, including instructional videos and further guidance
